Today I took a short drive up the Kern River Valley and stopped off at the Cannel Trail which starts in a horse meadow. There are currently two horses that roam around freely during the day, and they are fairly friendly. For someone who has always been interested in horses, it’s fun to be out in nature free with them as they graze hungrily on the small white flowers that in bloom this time of year.
Some winter thunderstorms begun to move in, and I decided to take the truck and drive up behind one of the mountains on a service road. I found an old abandoned mine, and remanants from the days of the Old West were strewn about here and there.
As the weather came closer I took some time lapse video of the clouds as they boiled over the mountain tops. I rolled down the window and listened to the rain as it fell in the quiet valley… It was a totally surrene experience.
I tried to catch some final light over like Isabella, but this clouds moved in fast and didn’t allow much light through. Here I shot just a little bit more time lapse footage.
Overall it was a fun little excursion in the rain in the Sierra Nevada range.
